Richard Andrew
Mr. Richard started dancing at the age of 7 years old, free styling to music whenever he heard it. Mr. Richard would mimic the dance styles and dance choreography of Missy Elliot, Janet Jackson, Aaliyah, and Michael Jackson. He would also make up choreography and would then perform it in his mother’s living room.
Mr. Richard knew he had a love for dance but living in a single mother household, he knew that dance wouldn’t be affordable but that never stopped him from dancing.
Later Mr. Richard enter high school in 9th grade where the school offered dance classes and from there Mr. Richard’s dance journey begun. Mr. Richard was given the opportunity to be a member of “Delaware Contemporary Dance Theater, as well as work alongside as an assistant Choreographer for Derrick Sellers and help set pieces for companies. Mr. Richard gets his inspiration to choreograph from the likes of Mia Michaels, Sonya, Derrick and Himself.
Mr. Richard’s style of dance is unique, and doesn’t play by the rules of dance. Mr. Richard’s focus is focusing on the development of the dancer into becoming dance Artists and learning how to become creative and create art with the body. Mr. Richard looks for the soul within the dancer rather than the technique. One of Mr. Richard’s favorite quotes is, “technique can be taught but having soul can’t.” Every day we continue to learn because there is always something new to be learned.
